See how often ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI name your brand
This AI visibility checker writes buyer prompts for your category, opens them in each assistant, and counts what comes back: how often you are named, how often your competitors are, which sites the answers cite, and where the facts about you are wrong. A second check reads your robots.txt against 36 AI crawler names. There is no sign-up, and nothing you paste leaves your browser.
1Tell the checker about your brand
Used to write the prompts and spot names in answers. Saved in this browser only.
2Check the prompts
Edit the wording to match how your buyers ask, and untick any you do not need. Prompts that name you are reported separately, because they test what AI says about you, not whether it finds you.
3Collect the answers
Pick a cell, open the prompt in that assistant, and paste the full answer. Start a new chat for every run. Press Ctrl and Enter to save and move to the next one.
Can AI crawlers read your site?
Tests your robots.txt against 36 AI crawler names with the matching rules Google documents (the most specific rule wins, and Allow wins a tie), then checks your page for noindex, nosnippet and content that only appears after JavaScript runs.
Drag the button to your bookmarks bar. Open any page on your site, click the bookmark, press Copy data, then paste it here. It reads your robots.txt, llms.txt, and the page’s robots tags and headers the way a logged-out visitor sees them.
AI crawler checkOpen yourdomain.com/robots.txt, select everything, copy it and paste it into the box. Browsers do not let one website read another website’s files, which is why this step is manual.
The check runs in your browser. Nothing you paste is sent to us.
Write AI crawler rules for your robots.txt
Pick a policy or tick individual crawlers. If you ran the check above, the rules are written for your current file.
Built and maintained by Ishant Sharma, Google Ads, Microsoft Ads and SEO specialist at Hustle Marketers, working in digital marketing since 2013. Crawler rules checked against each operator’s own documentation on October 4, 2026.
What does this AI visibility checker measure?
It counts how often AI assistants name your brand when buyers ask about your category, compares that with your competitors, and shows the range the true number probably sits in. Every number is a count of answers you pasted, so you can check it by hand.
Mention rate
The share of answers that name you, counted only for prompts that do not already mention you. This is the number to track over time.
answers naming you / answers savedLikely range
Small samples swing a lot, so each rate comes with a 95% range (a Wilson interval). Three mentions in 12 answers is 25%, but the true rate could be anywhere from about 9% to 53%.
Share of voice
Your mentions as a share of all mentions of the brands you track. It shows whether you or a competitor is the name assistants reach for.
Named first
How often you are the first of your tracked brands in an answer. Order changes from run to run, so we report how often you lead rather than an average rank.
Site cited
Answers that link to your website. Being named and being cited are different things, so they are counted separately. Citations vs mentions, explained.
Wrong facts
Answers you flag because they get you wrong: the wrong owner, prices, locations or services. A mention with wrong facts can cost you more than no mention.
Why does ChatGPT give a different answer every time?
AI assistants write a new answer for each request, and the brands they pick shift with the run, the model version, your location and your account history. One check is a sample, not a measurement. These studies show how much answers move:
Chance that two responses listed the same brands, across 2,961 runs by 600 volunteers. SparkToro and Gumshoe, January 2026
Share of the brands found across five runs that a single run caught. Zatuchin preprint, September 2026
Needed per prompt to get the standard error of brand detection under 0.10, in a 45-day study of ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Mode and Perplexity. University of St. Gallen preprint, April 2026
Brand overlap between API answers and the answers people see in the apps. Surfer, September 2026 (Surfer sells scraped answer data)
Assistants also differ from each other. In Martin Kulawik’s test of 3,313 identical prompt pairs through the APIs, repeat calls shared 69% of their brands on ChatGPT, 48.5% on Perplexity and 40.7% on Gemini.
That is why this checker runs each prompt more than once, reports a range instead of a single score, and has you collect answers in the real apps, where your buyers see them.
How do you run a fair AI visibility test?
Keep the conditions the same every time, ask the way buyers ask, and repeat each prompt. Write down anything that could change the answers, because a result you cannot repeat is hard to compare next month.
- Use the same setting each time. Logged out in a private window is the cleanest baseline. A temporary chat with memory off is the next best. Your own chat history changes what you see.
- Start a new chat for every run. Earlier messages in a chat shape the next answer.
- Ask like a buyer. Keep most prompts free of your brand name. A prompt that names you tells you what AI says about you, not whether it would recommend you to someone who has never heard of you.
- Run each prompt at least three times. Use five runs if you plan to act on the result. Past that, adding new prompts usually tells you more than repeating the same ones.
- Note where you are. Local answers depend on location, and answers can also reflect your account history when you are signed in.
- Paste the whole answer, sources included. The links at the bottom of an answer show which sites shaped it.
- Repeat monthly with the same prompts. Save the test file, then use Compare with an earlier test next month. The checker only calls a change clear when the two likely ranges do not overlap.
How does this checker compare with other free AI visibility checkers?
Most free checkers run a fixed set of prompts for you, once, and return a single score. This one lets you choose the prompts and competitors, repeat each prompt, and see every answer behind the numbers. The trade-off is time: you paste the answers yourself.

Where the automated tools are better: they cover far more prompts with no manual work, and Ahrefs and Semrush draw on large prompt databases. If you need to track hundreds of prompts every week, a paid tracker makes sense. See our comparison of AI visibility tools with verified prices, or the free tracking method this checker is built on.
Which AI crawlers should you allow in robots.txt?
Allow the search crawlers if you want to be cited in AI answers. Blocking training crawlers is a separate business choice, and it does not remove you from AI search. Each company uses different crawlers for each job:
| Job | OpenAI | Anthropic | Perplexity | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AI search and citations | OAI-SearchBot | Claude-SearchBot | PerplexityBot | Googlebot (AI Overviews and AI Mode) |
| Model training | GPTBot | ClaudeBot | None listed. PerplexityBot is not used for training | Google-Extended (Gemini training and grounding) |
| Visits when a user asks | ChatGPT-User | Claude-User | Perplexity-User | Google-Agent |
- Blocking GPTBot does not remove you from ChatGPT search. OpenAI uses OAI-SearchBot for search and says each setting is independent.
- Google-Extended does not decide whether you appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode. Google says it does not affect inclusion in Google Search, and those features use pages Googlebot crawls. Google does use it to let you limit training of the models behind those features. To leave the features, Search Console now has a separate Search generative AI setting.
- User-triggered visits may skip robots.txt. OpenAI, Perplexity, Google, Meta and Amazon say their user-triggered fetchers may not follow it. Anthropic says all of its bots honor robots.txt, Claude-User included.
- Allowed is not the same as getting through. CDN and firewall bot settings can block crawlers your robots.txt allows. Cloudflare, for example, can add its own AI crawler rules to the top of your file.
- Content added by JavaScript may be invisible. Vercel’s December 2024 analysis found that the AI crawlers it studied from OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta, ByteDance and Perplexity did not run JavaScript, while Gemini (through Googlebot) and Applebot did. The crawler check compares your server HTML with the finished page.
- llms.txt is optional. Google’s AI optimization guide says you do not need special files for its AI features, because Google Search itself doesn’t use them. None of the AI companies we checked say they read other sites’ llms.txt files.
AI visibility checker FAQs
What is an AI visibility checker?
It is a tool that shows whether AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google’s AI Overviews name or cite your brand when people ask about your category. Some checkers ask the assistants live, some look up stored answers, and some only score your website without asking an AI anything. This one counts live answers that you collect, and adds a crawler access check.
Is this AI visibility checker free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, email or usage limit. Your test is saved in this browser on this device. To move it to another device or share it with your team, save the test file (JSON) and load it there.
Why do I get different answers when I ask the same question?
Assistants generate a fresh answer every time, and the result also shifts with your location, account history, model version and whether a web search runs. In SparkToro’s January 2026 study there was less than a 1 in 100 chance that two responses listed the same brands. Treat one answer as a sample, run each prompt several times, and track the rate.
How many times should I run each prompt?
Three runs give a first read. Run five or more if you plan to act on the result. A University of St. Gallen preprint found that about seven runs per prompt were needed to get the standard error of brand detection under 0.10, so treat a three-run result as a direction, not a final number.
Why doesn’t this checker ask ChatGPT for me?
Automated checkers usually work through an API or a scraper, and API answers can differ a lot from what people see in the app. Surfer’s September 2026 study found only 15.5% to 23.8% brand overlap between API and app answers. Running the prompt yourself in the real app gives you the answer a buyer would see. The trade-off is time: 8 prompts in 4 assistants with 3 runs is 96 answers to paste.
Does blocking GPTBot remove my site from ChatGPT search?
No. OpenAI uses OAI-SearchBot for ChatGPT search and GPTBot for model training, and says each setting is independent. Blocking GPTBot asks OpenAI not to train on your content. Blocking OAI-SearchBot keeps your pages out of ChatGPT search answers, though they can still appear as navigational links.
Does Google-Extended control AI Overviews and AI Mode?
Not whether you appear in them. Google says Google-Extended does not affect a site’s inclusion in Google Search, and AI Overviews and AI Mode use pages that Googlebot crawls and that can be shown with a snippet. Google does say Google-Extended is how you limit training of the models behind those features. To keep content out of the features themselves, use the nosnippet or max-snippet rules on a page, or the Search generative AI setting in Search Console for the whole site.
Do I need an llms.txt file to show up in AI answers?
Not for Google. Google says you don’t need special AI text files for its generative AI features, because Google Search itself doesn’t use them. None of the AI companies we checked document reading other sites’ llms.txt files. It does no harm to have one, so the crawler check reports it without scoring it.
How do I get my brand named more often in AI answers?
Start with the sites the answers cite. Earn a place on them through reviews, directories, comparison articles and community threads in your category. Make sure your own pages answer buyer questions plainly, and that AI search crawlers can reach them. Our guide to improving brand visibility in AI search covers this step by step.
