What Is White Label SEO? How It Works, What It Costs and How to Vet a Partner

Summarize this article with:

Quick Answer: What is white label SEO?

White label SEO is an arrangement where a specialist provider does the SEO work, such as audits, content, links, local SEO and reporting, and an agency sells and delivers it under its own brand. The end client deals only with the agency, which keeps the relationship, billing and strategy. The provider stays out of sight, usually under an NDA.

Key Observations

  • No partner can promise rankings. Google says no one can guarantee a #1 ranking and warns against SEOs that claim to.
  • The client must own its Business Profile. Google requires end customers to keep ownership or co-ownership at all times, and third parties must tell clients that Business Profile is free.
  • Published wholesale prices vary widely. In October 2026, AgencyPlatform listed local SEO from $178 a month and SEOReseller listed $499 per client a month. These are market figures.
  • Markup is not margin. A 100% markup is a 50% margin, before your own account time.
  • India has no daylight saving. IST stays at UTC+5:30, so the gap with US Eastern time moves between 9.5 and 10.5 hours.

What does white label SEO mean in plain terms?

There are three parties. The provider does the SEO work. The agency sells it, sets the price and manages the client. The client sees one brand, the agency’s, on every report, email and invoice.

A typical case: a web design agency whose clients keep asking for SEO. Instead of hiring, it adds a partner who audits sites, fixes technical issues, writes content and builds links, while the agency presents the plan and results as its own. Our guide to white labeling explains the general model, and white label digital marketing covers PPC and other services sold the same way.

How does white label SEO work step by step?

  1. Scope: the agency agrees goals, pages, locations and budget with the client, then confirms with the partner what is in and out of scope.
  2. Access: the client grants the partner user or manager access to Search Console, GA4, the CMS and Business Profile, and keeps ownership.
  3. Baseline audit: technical health, content, links, local listings, current rankings and leads.
  4. Plan: a prioritized plan the agency approves before work starts.
  5. Delivery: fixes, content, links and local work, each logged with a URL.
  6. Quality check: the agency reviews the work before the client sees it.
  7. Reporting: the partner reports to the agency, and the agency reports to the client in its own brand. Our guide to white label SEO reports covers what that report should show and which tools to use.
  8. Review: monthly adjustments, with scope renewed each quarter.

How is white label SEO different from reselling, outsourcing and freelancers?

ModelWho does the workBrand the client seesTypical fit
White label SEOSpecialist providerThe agency’sAgencies adding or scaling SEO under their brand
SEO reseller programProvider, often as fixed packagesThe agency’sAgencies wanting set packages and wholesale prices
OutsourcingAn external companyEither; the vendor need not be hiddenBusinesses or agencies buying capacity
FreelancerOne individualUsually the agency’sSmall or specialist tasks
In-house hireYour employeeThe agency’sSteady volume that justifies a salary

The terms overlap. White label describes how the work is presented, reselling describes the commercial model of buying wholesale and selling at your own price, and outsourcing is any work done by another company. Our SEO reseller page covers the package side.

Table and definitions are our summary. The industry uses these terms loosely, so ask any partner which model they mean.

Is white label SEO software the same as a white label SEO service?

No. White label SEO software is a platform your own team runs under your brand, with rank tracking, audits and branded client dashboards. A white label SEO service is a partner doing the work. Software suits agencies with SEO staff; a service suits agencies without them. Many use both.

What is usually included in white label SEO?

  • White label SEO audits: crawling and indexing, page speed, on-page issues, content gaps and links, delivered in your branding and ranked by impact.
  • Keyword research mapped to specific pages.
  • Technical and on-page SEO: fixes, titles, internal links and schema.
  • Content: briefs, new pages and refreshes of existing ones.
  • Link building: outreach and digital PR, with every link listed.
  • Local SEO: Business Profile work with manager access, citations, reviews and location pages. See white label local SEO.
  • AI search visibility: prompt checks and content changes aimed at AI Overviews and assistants.
  • Reporting in the agency’s brand, tying Search Console and GA4 data to leads and listing the work done.

What a sound partner leaves out: guaranteed rankings and paid links. Google defines link spam as links created primarily to manipulate rankings, and the penalty risk lands on your client’s site.

How do agencies price and mark up white label SEO?

There is no standard price. Partners charge per client, per location, per deliverable or for dedicated hours, and scopes differ. The figures below show the spread. They are market figures, not our pricing.

How much should an agency mark up white label SEO?

Provider blogs often suggest a 30% to 100% markup, as Data Bloo does without citing data. Work in margin instead:

  • Markup is profit divided by cost. Margin is profit divided by price.
  • Buying at $1,000 and selling at $2,000 is a 100% markup and a 50% margin.
  • If calls, quality checks and reporting cost you $300 of staff time, that sale leaves $700, a 35% margin.
  • To price from a target margin, divide total cost by (1 minus the margin). At $1,300 total cost and a 40% target, charge about $2,167.

DesignRush makes the same warning: in its model, a 100% markup on a $900 package left a 15% contribution margin once loaded costs were counted. Our white label SEO starts at $500 a month per client, with the final price based on scope and the number of client accounts, and our white label SEO pricing guide compares partner prices in more detail.

What are the risks of white label SEO?

  • Your name carries their work. Weak content or risky links damage your client relationship, not the partner’s.
  • Account control. A partner that holds ownership of Search Console or a Business Profile can lock you out. In Search Console, only owners can add and remove users.
  • Hidden subcontracting. Work may be passed on again. Ask who actually does it.
  • Dependence. One partner holding every account is hard to replace. Keep work logs, content and link lists in your own systems.
  • Margin squeeze. Extra calls, revisions and manual reporting eat into what looked like a healthy markup.
  • Contract conflicts. Some client contracts restrict subcontracting or require consent, so check yours first.

When does white label SEO not make sense?

When no one at your agency can review SEO work, when client contracts bar subcontracting, or when steady volume would justify a hire. DesignRush’s cost model put the break-even with an in-house SEO at roughly nine accounts, with in-house more practical nearer 15. Treat that as one model, not a rule.

How do you vet a white label SEO partner?

CheckWhat good looks like
NDA and non-solicitationSigned before you share client names; covers the partnership and your clients
Account ownershipClient owns Search Console, GA4, CMS and Business Profile; partner gets user or manager access
ReportingA sample report in your format with no partner branding, plus a work log with URLs
Communication across time zonesA named contact, agreed response times and fixed overlap hours for calls
Link and content standardsWritten rejection criteria for link sites; every link listed; AI drafts edited by people
GuaranteesNone on rankings
PilotOne account first, before you move more
ExitNotice period and handover of content, keyword map, audit and link list

Google’s own interview questions for hiring an SEO work well here: ask for examples of previous work, whether they follow Google Search Essentials, what results to expect and when, and how you will communicate. Starting small is normal. In a 2019 Local Search Forum thread, Ben Fisher said about 70% of his firm’s work came through white label partners, many of whom stayed at two to five accounts.

Can I find reliable white label SEO services in India for my agency?

Yes, but judge each provider on evidence, not location. Quality varies between India-based firms as it does anywhere. Check these before you sign:

  • Who does the work: employees or subcontractors, and their experience.
  • Writing for your market: US-English samples and a paid or free test brief.
  • Overlap hours: India Standard Time is UTC+5:30 with no daylight saving, so India is 10.5 hours ahead of US Eastern time while the US is on standard time and 9.5 hours during daylight saving time. Agree a daily overlap window and response times.
  • Contract basics: the contracting entity, governing law, NDA, non-solicitation and payment terms.
  • Access and exit: who can log in to client accounts and how access is removed.
  • References: a current agency partner in your country you can speak to.

FAQs

Do clients know their agency uses a white label SEO partner?

Usually not, because the partner works under the agency’s brand and signs an NDA. Nothing stops an agency from telling clients it works with specialists, and some client contracts require consent before work is subcontracted. Check your client agreements first, and never claim work was done in-house if a client asks directly.

What is the difference between white label SEO and an SEO reseller program?

They describe the same relationship from different angles. White label is about presentation: the work goes out under your brand. Reselling is the commercial model: you buy at a wholesale price and sell at your own. Reseller programs tend to sell fixed packages, while white label partnerships are often scoped per client.

How much does white label SEO cost?

There is no standard price. In October 2026, for example, AgencyPlatform listed local SEO from $178 a month and SEOReseller listed $499 per client a month, and scopes differ widely. These are market figures. Our own white label SEO starts at $500 a month per client, with the final price based on scope and the number of client accounts.

What is a white label SEO audit?

It is a full SEO audit done by a partner and delivered in your agency’s branding, often used to win or onboard clients. A useful one covers crawling and indexing, page speed, on-page issues, content gaps, links and local listings, then ranks fixes by impact instead of listing every warning a tool finds.

Is white label local SEO different from white label SEO?

It is the same model applied to local search: Business Profile management, citations, reviews, location pages and map rankings. The main difference is access. Google requires the business to keep ownership or co-ownership of its Business Profile, so the partner should work as a manager, never as the only owner.

How long does white label SEO take to show results?

The same as any SEO, because the work is the same. In our experience, technical fixes can show in Search Console within weeks, while content and links take months, depending on competition and the site’s starting point. Be wary of a partner that promises a ranking or a date: Google says no one can guarantee a #1 ranking.

Can I find reliable white label SEO services in India for my agency?

Yes, if you vet on evidence: who does the work, US-English writing samples, a sample report, NDA and non-solicitation terms, account access rules and agreed overlap hours. India Standard Time is UTC+5:30 with no daylight saving, so plan calls around a 9.5 to 10.5 hour gap with US Eastern time.

How we created this guide

We read the top-ranking US guides on what white label SEO is and compared what each covered. Google’s guidance on hiring an SEO, its spam policies and its Business Profile third-party policies were read directly. Market prices come from each provider’s own page or a named study, checked in October 2026 and labeled as market figures. Practitioner views come from Local Search Forum threads. AI tools helped organize notes, and every fact links to its source.
