Most lists of “free” PPC tools mix in free trials, paid software and tools that only work once you start spending. This guide does not. Instead, every tool below can be used without paying, and for each one we list the catch: daily limits, account or billing requirements, and what changed in 2026.

By Ishant Sharma, Google Ads Specialist and founder of Hustle Marketers. Free limits checked on vendor pages on 15 September 2026.

What Are the Best Free PPC Tools in 2026?

So, if you only have five minutes, start with this shortlist. Together, these tools cover keyword research, bulk editing, competitor ads, tracking and landing pages without a paid subscription.

How Did We Choose These Free PPC Tools?

We reviewed the top ranking “best PPC tools” articles and found three problems. First, many include tools that are only free trials. Second, several are out of date after 2026 changes. Finally, none of them list the actual free limits in one place.

As a result, we used three simple rules:

  • First, the tool must be usable at no cost for as long as you want, not just for 7 or 30 days.
  • Second, the limit or catch must be stated on the vendor’s own website, checked on 15 September 2026.
  • Third, it must help with a real PPC job: research, building, tracking, reporting or landing pages.

Also, where a vendor page did not state a limit, we say so rather than guess.

Is Google Keyword Planner Really Free?

Yes. However, there are two catches that confuse a lot of new advertisers.

Do you need billing details to use Keyword Planner?

Yes. In fact, Google’s help page says you must complete your account setup by entering billing information to access basic features such as getting new keyword ideas. In other words, you do not have to run a campaign, but the account has to be fully set up. See Google’s Keyword Planner help page.

Why does Keyword Planner show ranges instead of exact search volume?

Indeed, this is one of the most common questions in the Google Ads Community. Accounts with little or no spend often see broad buckets like 1K to 10K instead of an exact monthly average. Because Google’s help page does not publish the exact rule, treat ranges as a sign to compare keywords against each other, not as precise traffic numbers.

How should you use Keyword Planner on a small budget?

  • Use “Start with a website” and enter your landing page URL, not just a seed word. That way, the ideas match your page better.
  • Sort by top of page bid (high range). In our experience, high bids usually signal buyer intent.
  • Then use the forecast tab to double-check a budget before you launch.
  • Finally, cross check volumes with a second free tool if you only see ranges.

What Can You Do With Google Ads Editor for Free?

Simply put, Google Ads Editor is a free desktop app for making bulk changes offline and posting them when you are ready. In fact, it is the single biggest time saver on this list for anyone managing more than one campaign.

What jobs is Google Ads Editor best for?

  • First, copying campaigns, ad groups and ads between accounts.
  • Also, find and replace across headlines, URLs and keywords.
  • In addition, adding or pausing hundreds of keywords at once.
  • Finally, reviewing every change as a draft before it goes live.

Also note that Google has moved the Editor page to business.google.com, so older links to ads.google.com now redirect there.

What if Google Ads Editor will not sync or open?

Unfortunately, sync and startup errors are common forum complaints, so it helps to know the fixes. First, before reinstalling, download the account again with recent changes, check you are on the latest version, and use Google’s Fix Google Ads Editor errors page. Also, if you need to add match types to a long keyword list first, our free Keyword Wrapper outputs a list ready to paste into Editor.

How Can You See Competitor Ads for Free?

In most cases, you do not need a paid spy tool to see what competitors are running. Google, Meta and LinkedIn all publish free ad libraries.

How do you use the Google Ads Transparency Center?

The Google Ads Transparency Center is a searchable hub of ads from verified advertisers, launched in March 2023. In addition, you can filter by region, date and format and see when an ad was last shown.

The catch: it is built around advertisers, so you look up a company name or website rather than a keyword. That is why advertisers in the Google Ads Community regularly ask for keyword search. Start with the competitors you already see in your search terms or auction insights report, then look up each one. For a full process, see our PPC competitor analysis guide.

What does the Meta Ad Library show?

The Meta Ad Library shows ads running across Facebook, Instagram and other Meta placements. As a result, it is the fastest way to see a competitor’s current hooks, offers and creative formats. Outside the EU it does not show spend, targeting or results for regular commercial ads, so use it for ideas, not for benchmarks.

Is there a LinkedIn ad library?

Yes. Likewise, LinkedIn has an Ad Library where you can search ads by advertiser or keyword. For this reason, it is useful for B2B and SaaS clients who are planning LinkedIn Ads.

What does the SpyFu free version include?

For example, SpyFu offers a free version with no time limit, but it shows basic results only. However, full keyword and ad history needs a paid plan, which starts at $39 a month on its pricing page. Even so, the free view is still useful for a first look at a competitor’s paid keywords.

What Are the Best Free Keyword Research Tools for PPC?

Keyword Planner is the base. Even so, a second tool helps when you only see ranges or want competitor data. Below are the free plans and their real limits.

ToolFree limit (checked Sep 2026)Best PPC use
Google Keyword PlannerNo published query cap, billing setup requiredVolumes, bid ranges, forecasts
Microsoft Advertising Keyword PlannerFree with a Microsoft Advertising accountBing volumes down to city and DMA level
Semrush free account10 searches a day across keyword and domain research toolsChecking which paid keywords a competitor targets
Ubersuggest free account3 searches a dayQuick volume and CPC checks
AnswerThePublic free plan3 searches a dayQuestion keywords for ad copy and negatives

Keyword SurferFree Chrome extensionVolume and CPC shown right in Google results

Sources: Semrush, Ubersuggest, AnswerThePublic, WordStream, Keyword Surfer and Microsoft Advertising.

Which free tool is best for finding negative keywords?

AnswerThePublic is underrated here, because its question lists surface searches like “free”, “jobs”, “DIY” and “how to” that often waste budget. Then pair it with your own search terms report, which is free inside Google Ads and is still the best source of negatives.

Which Free Google Ads Tools Help You Plan and Automate?

When does Performance Planner work, and when does it not?

Performance Planner is free inside Google Ads, and it forecasts how budget changes affect results. However, since 9 March 2026 it no longer supports Display or Video campaigns, or plans based on impression share.

For Search, Shopping and Performance Max, a campaign needs at least 3 clicks, at least 1 conversion, some spend in the last 17 days, and no bid strategy change in the last 10 days. Full details are on Google’s Performance Planner help page.

Are free Google Ads scripts safe to use?

Scripts are free, and they can automate reports, budget alerts and broken link checks. On the other hand, they also carry real risk. Google’s help reminds you that script changes can’t be undone, and a script that edits bids or pauses ads can do a lot of damage before you notice.

Before you run a script you found online:

  • First, read what it changes. Reporting scripts are low risk, scripts that edit bids or pause ads are not.
  • Next, always click Preview first and check the log.
  • Run a third party script through Optmyzr’s free Ad Script Safety Checker.
  • Remember the limits: a script in a single account can run for 30 minutes, as listed on Google’s scripts limits page.
  • Otherwise, if you do not code, use automated rules instead.

Is Google Trends useful for PPC?

Yes, especially for timing. Google Trends shows when interest in a product or service rises, so you can raise budgets before a seasonal peak instead of after it. However, it does not give search volumes, only relative interest.

What Free Tools Help You Track Conversions and Improve Landing Pages?

In practice, bad tracking wastes more budget than bad bids. These free tools cover the basics.

How do you check your Google Ads conversion tag is firing?

The easiest way is Google Tag Assistant. Google has merged its older Tag Assistant extensions into a single Chrome extension, which works with the debugger at tagassistant.google.com. Then open your thank you page in debug mode and confirm the conversion event fires once, not twice.

Is Microsoft Clarity really free?

Yes. Microsoft Clarity describes itself as free forever with no traffic limits. For example, it records sessions and builds heatmaps, so you can see whether paid visitors scroll past your form or rage click a broken button.

What replaced Google Optimize for A/B testing?

Meanwhile, Google Optimize was discontinued on 30 September 2023. Google now points users to third party testing tools such as AB Tasty, Optimizely and VWO, which are paid. The free workaround for most PPC accounts is an ad variation in Google Ads Experiments that changes the final URL, which splits traffic between your current page and a new one.

How do you check landing page speed for free?

To start, run your landing page through PageSpeed Insights. Check the mobile score first, because most paid clicks for local and ecommerce advertisers come from phones.

Which Free Tools Work for PPC Reporting?

Is Looker Studio still free now that it is called Data Studio?

Yes. Google renamed Looker Studio back to Data Studio on 10 April 2026, according to the Google Cloud blog. Importantly, the free version is still available for reports and dashboards, with a paid Data Studio Pro tier. Old lookerstudio.google.com links redirect to the new address. Whatever tool you use, make sure the numbers in the report match the ad platform, as covered in PPC reporting integrity.

What is the WordStream Google Ads Grader?

The WordStream Google Ads Performance Grader is still live and free. It checks wasted spend, Quality Score, impression share and CTR. For a manual review you control, work through our Google Ads optimization checklist instead. However, you sign in with Google to connect your account, so check what access you are granting before you use it on a client account.

Which Free Analytics Tools Do PPC Advertisers Need?

Ad platforms report their own conversions, so you also need an independent view of what paid traffic does on your site. Fortunately, the core Google analytics stack costs nothing.

Is Google Analytics 4 free for PPC tracking?

Yes. Specifically, the standard version of Google Analytics 4 is free, and a paid Analytics 360 version exists for large companies. For PPC, the most useful free features are linking GA4 to Google Ads, importing key events as conversions and building remarketing audiences.

Do you need Google Tag Manager for Google Ads?

You do not have to use it. Still, it helps. Google Tag Manager is free and lets you add the Google Ads conversion tag, Meta Pixel and Microsoft UET tag in one place, without asking a developer every time. As a result, testing a new conversion takes minutes instead of days.

How does Google Search Console help paid search?

Similarly, Search Console is free and shows the organic queries you already rank for. For example, if you rank in the top three organically for a keyword with a high CPC, you can test lowering that bid and compare total clicks, paid plus organic.

Which Free AI Tools Help With Google Ads?

Searches for “ai tools for google ads” have grown, and several ranking articles now list them. However, most AI PPC tools marketed as free are trials. These are the options that cost nothing to start:

  • ChatGPT and Google Gemini both have free plans. Use them to draft headline and description variations, then check every line against the 30 and 90 character limits and your landing page claims.
  • Google Ads itself can suggest headlines, descriptions and images inside the campaign builder at no extra cost. Review each suggestion before it goes live, because generated claims still have to match your offer.
  • Finally, Canva has a free plan for resizing display, Demand Gen and Meta creative into the formats each placement needs.

In our experience, AI is fastest at producing a long first draft of ad copy. On the other hand, it is weakest at knowing which claims your landing page can actually back up, so a human review is still essential.

How Are Free, Freemium and Free Trial PPC Tools Different?

  • Free: no payment ever, such as Google Ads Editor, Microsoft Clarity and the Transparency Center.
  • Freemium: free forever, but with limits, for example Semrush (10 searches a day) or SpyFu (basic results).
  • Free trial: full access for a few days, and then you pay. Therefore, these are not free tools, and we left them out.

Which checks should you run before connecting a free tool to your ad account?

  • First, what access it asks for: read only, or the ability to make changes.
  • Where it stores your data, and for how long.
  • Whether the “free” report ends in a sales call or a paid upgrade.
  • Finally, for agencies: whether your client contract allows sharing account data with third parties.

What Free PPC Tool Stack Should You Use?

Which free tools should a small local business use?

  • Start with Google Keyword Planner for keywords and budget forecasts.
  • Next, use the Google Ads Transparency Center to check competitor ads in your area.
  • Then confirm calls and form leads are tracked with Google Tag Assistant.
  • After that, add Microsoft Clarity to see how visitors use your landing page.
  • Our budget calculator to set a realistic monthly spend.

How can a Shopify or ecommerce store run PPC on free tools?

Which free tools do small agencies and freelancers need?

  • Build campaigns in bulk with Google Ads Editor and Microsoft Advertising Editor.
  • Also, use a Semrush free account for quick competitor checks in pitches.
  • In addition, Optmyzr’s Auction Insights Visualizer for client reports.
  • Then, Adalysis Statistical Significance Calculator for ad tests.
  • Our 120 point Google Ads audit checklist for new account reviews.

When Should You Upgrade From Free to Paid PPC Tools?

Free tools are usually enough for one or two accounts. However, consider paying when:

  • You hit daily limits several times a week.
  • Manual reporting takes hours each month because you manage several accounts.
  • Historical competitor data matters to you, not just today’s ads.
  • Alerts and automation need to run without writing scripts.

A useful rule: if a paid tool costs less than the hours it saves you each month, it pays for itself. If it does not, stay on the free stack. If the real problem is time rather than tools, compare the cost of outside help in our PPC management pricing guide.
