How We Took a Building-Block Toy Brand From $0 to 8.5x ROAS in 60 Days

The Client

Our client is a faith-based, education-first ecommerce brand selling LEGO-compatible, Bible-themed building sets for kids, sold on Shopify. As a Shopify marketing agency, this is exactly the kind of cold-start Shopify account we specialize in. There was no prior campaign data, no historical Shopping feed performance, and no conversion tracking baseline to work from.

The Challenge

Starting from zero on Google Ads is harder than fixing a broken account. There is no search term history to mine, no past Shopping performance to learn from, and no way to know which products, audiences, or match types will convert until real spend goes live.

For a niche, values-driven product with a specific buyer, Christian parents and educators, not general toy shoppers, broad targeting would have burned budget fast on irrelevant clicks.

Our Strategy

Feed and Merchant Center foundation. We cleaned and optimized the Shopify product feed before launch, covering titles, GTINs, custom labels, categories, and images.

Getting this right from day one meant the account qualified for both paid Shopping and free listings on Google Merchant Center without the delays most new accounts face. We also synced product reviews into Google Merchant Center so star ratings show directly on Shopping ads, which matters more for a niche product where buyers have no prior brand familiarity.

Campaign structure. We split Search into high-intent product terms and audience-aware terms, homeschool curriculum, Sunday school supplies, instead of running one broad campaign.

Standard Shopping was split by margin tier, and Performance Max launched only after two to three weeks of clean Search and Shopping data.

Tracking and protection. Server-side and enhanced conversion tracking were set up before the first dollar was spent. A tight negative keyword list blocked generic building-toy searches, free and DIY terms, and unrelated toy categories from day one.

Ongoing optimization. Weekly search term, placement, and Merchant Center diagnostics reviews ran through the full 60 days to catch waste early and reallocate budget to what was converting.
