Answer Engine Optimization Services (AEO and GEO)

What are answer engine optimization services?

Answer engine optimization services are the work of getting your pages used as a source when ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Perplexity, Gemini or Copilot answer a question in your market. We audit what those systems can already reach and say about you, fix what blocks them, restructure your pages so an answer can be lifted cleanly, and measure citations monthly on a fixed prompt set.

What you get, in short

  • A baseline you can check: what each answer engine currently says about you, on a prompt set you approve.
  • Crawler and rendering access fixed for the retrieval bots, which is the part most sites get wrong at the CDN rather than in robots.txt.
  • One identity page with Organization markup that carries your real identifiers, so a machine can tell you apart from the other companies with your name.
  • Answer-first restructuring of the pages that matter, with the question in the heading and the answer in the first two sentences.
  • Monthly measurement on the same prompts, with the variation reported rather than hidden.
  • A written list of what we will not promise, which is on this page before you ever speak to us.

Who are these services for, and who are they not for?

They are for businesses that already get some organic search traffic, have a site they can edit, and sell something with a considered purchase behind it. Ecommerce brands, local service companies, SaaS, and agencies buying white label. If a buyer asks an assistant for recommendations in your category before they call anyone, this work matters to you.

Now the part no other page on this subject seems willing to write. We read six competitor service pages for this topic in full on 26 September 2026 and not one of them says who the service is wrong for. Here is ours.

Do not buy AEO from us, or from anyone, if:

  • Nothing on the web describes your business yet. There is nothing to disambiguate and no material for a model to draw on. Spend the money on getting found and getting written about first.
  • Your site is not indexed or not crawlable. Every answer engine that cites the open web has to retrieve a document before it can quote one. That is a technical SEO job, and we would rather sell you that job than an AEO retainer that cannot work.
  • You need leads this month. Nothing in this discipline is a two week play. If the pipeline is the emergency, paid search is the honest answer and we will tell you so.
  • You want a guaranteed citation. Nobody can sell you one. The section below explains exactly why.
  • Nobody on your side can publish. The most expensive version of this work is the one where we write everything and wait three weeks for approval.

How much do answer engine optimization services cost?

Almost nobody selling this will tell you. Of the six competitor service pages we read, one published any price at all. Meanwhile a completely separate set of search results exists for AEO pricing, with no overlap at all between those domains and the ones selling the service. The people ranking for the service have handed away the first question a buyer asks.

So here is the market, with every figure attributed to whoever published it. These are not our prices.

Published byAudit or projectMonthly retainerEnterprise band
Saffron Edge, on its service page, read 26 September 20261,500 to 5,000 dollars2,000 to 10,000 dollars10,000 to 30,000 dollars and up
Digital Elevator pricing guide, Kenneth Faveron, 2 April 2026, updated 23 July 2026Productized 500 to 2,500 dollars a month; freelance projects 150 to 2,000 dollarsMid-market 2,000 to 8,000 dollars10,000 to 30,000 dollars and up
Stackmatix pricing guide, Matt Pru, 12 March 2026Audits of 10 to 20 hours, 1,000 to 4,000 dollarsSmall business 1,500 to 5,000 dollars; mid-market 5,000 to 10,000 dollars10,000 to 20,000 dollars and up; projects 25,000 to 100,000 dollars

Read that table with one caution attached. Stackmatix states no sources or methodology for its figures. Digital Elevator names three sources without linking them. Treat all of it as market observation, not research. What the three do agree on is the shape: a low four figure entry point, a mid four to five figure monthly retainer, and a five figure enterprise band.

We do not publish a rate card, and we will say why rather than leave you guessing. Scope on this work genuinely varies, mostly on the first item in the list below, and a headline number would be either useless or misleading. What we will do is give you the figure on the first call, before any audit, split into the one off technical work and the ongoing content work, so you can hold it against every range in that table.

What actually changes the price?

  • How much of the work is repair versus creation. Crawler access, indexation and identity markup are usually a one off fix. Content is ongoing. Ask any provider to quote those two things separately, including us. If they cannot be separated, the proposal is not specific enough to compare.
  • How many questions you want to own. Twenty is a project. Two hundred is a program.
  • How many platforms you are measuring. Each one you add multiplies the prompt set and the monitoring time.
  • Whether you pay for tooling. Monitoring platforms in this category run from roughly 20 dollars a month at the entry level to four figures for agency tiers, on the published pricing in the guides above. We will tell you when a tool is worth it and when a spreadsheet does the same job.
  • Who publishes. If your team can ship changes, the cost drops and the timeline shortens.

Can you get affordable AEO services?

Yes, if affordable means a scoped one off audit and fix rather than a retainer. The highest value work in this discipline is front loaded: access, identity, structure. That is finite work with a finite price. The ongoing part is publishing and housekeeping, and plenty of teams can do that themselves once the foundation is right. We would rather sell you the audit and hand you the plan than sign you to a retainer you do not need.

Ask us what your scope would look like

What will you have after the first 30 days?

This is the question a buyer-side audit guide tells you to ask every provider, and it is the right one, so here is our answer before you have to ask it.

  1. A prompt set you approved. Twenty to thirty questions a real customer would type, written in their words, not ours. Yours to keep.
  2. A baseline for each prompt on each platform, recorded as one of five outcomes: cited, mentioned, recommended, misrepresented, or absent. Those are five different things and conflating them is how AEO reporting becomes meaningless.
  3. An access report. Which retrieval bots can reach you, which are blocked, and where the block sits. We check the CDN and firewall, not just robots.txt, because that is where accidental blocks usually live.
  4. An identity audit. Your Organization markup, your name, legal name, address and phone across every place on the web that describes you, and every disagreement between them listed.
  5. A prioritized fix list, split into one off technical work and ongoing content work, with our estimate of effort against each.
  6. A written statement of what we think will not move, and why.

How does the process work, step by step?

2. FindabilityIndexation, internal linking and the ordinary technical work that has to be right before anything else matters.Prioritised technical fix list
3. IdentityOne identity page carrying Organization markup with the identifiers you actually hold, a sameAs set built only from profiles we have verified exist, and an off-site consistency sweep.Markup implemented, inconsistencies corrected
4. QuestionsWe take the questions from your sales calls and support inbox first, then People Also Ask and the FAQ sections of whoever currently ranks. Real wording, not marketing wording.Approved prompt set and question to page map
5. StructureAnswer-first restructuring: the question as the heading, the answer in the first two sentences, tables for anything comparative, one idea per section.Revised pages, or briefs if your team writes
6. CorroborationThe off-site work. Being described accurately by other people is the part of this you cannot do from inside your own CMS.Target list and outreach plan
7. MeasurementSame prompts, same day each month, variation reported.Monthly report and a quarterly read

How long before AEO shows results?

We are not going to give you a date, and here is why that is the honest answer rather than a dodge.

Five of the six competitor pages we read state a timeline. Across those pages and the pricing guides, the claims run from four to eight weeks for first movement, to three to six months for citation momentum, to three to nine months for sustained authority. Not one of those figures is sourced to a study. They are estimates presented as benchmarks.

What we can tell you is structural. A citation requires retrieval. Retrieval requires indexation. Indexation runs on the search engine’s schedule, not ours. For a page already indexed and already relevant, the constraint is how often the surface re-reads you, which nobody publishes. For a site nobody has written about, the constraint is not AEO at all.

Practically: treat the first 30 days as baseline and repair, expect the first movement you can argue about in a quarter, and judge the program on a rolling three month view rather than a monthly screenshot.

How do we measure AI visibility and AEO success?

On a fixed prompt set, monthly, with five outcomes recorded per prompt per platform: cited, mentioned, recommended, misrepresented, absent. Plus Search Console for Google’s AI surfaces, Bing Webmaster Tools for Copilot and Bing summaries, and referral traffic segmented by AI source in your analytics.

Can AEO be measured without buying a tool?

Yes, and we will show you how even though it costs us the tooling margin.

  • Google Search Console has a generative AI performance report. Free, first party, and it is the measurement Google itself recommends.
  • Bing Webmaster Tools added an AI Performance report in February 2026. It reports citations by page, which Search Console does not, across Microsoft Copilot and Bing’s AI summaries.
  • Your analytics, segmented by source, will show ChatGPT, Perplexity and Copilot sessions separately. Expect small numbers.
  • A spreadsheet and thirty minutes a month. Run your prompt set by hand, on the same day, and log the five outcomes. That is the whole method. A tool automates it; it does not improve it.

Our guides on tracking brand visibility in AI search and the difference between citations and mentions set the method out in full, free, whether you hire us or not.

Why is a before and after citation count not proof?

Because the thing you are measuring moves on its own. Ask the same assistant the same question twice and you can get different sources. That means a single measurement is close to noise, and two measurements three months apart cannot separate your work from that instability. This is true of our reporting as much as anyone’s, which is why we report the variation rather than the best month.

What is the difference between AEO, GEO and SEO?

They overlap far more than the vocabulary suggests. Here is how we use the terms, and where each name comes from.

TermWhat it aims atWhere the name comes from
SEOBeing found and ranked in search resultsThe original discipline
AEO, answer engine optimizationAnswer surfaces generally: AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, featured snippets, People Also AskIndustry coinage with no documented originator. Its earliest dated use we could find was about voice assistants, not language models
GEO, generative engine optimizationBeing used as a source inside a generated answerA 2023 research paper, accepted to KDD 2024
LLMO, AI SEOUsed loosely, often for the same workIndustry coinage

If an agency charges you three times for three acronyms, that is a pricing decision, not a technical one. We quote one scope. Our answer engine optimization guide works through the evidence behind each of these terms, and our guide to generative engine optimization covers GEO on its own terms.

Does AEO work alongside our existing SEO?

It is not a separate program, it is the same program aimed at a wider set of surfaces. Crawling, indexing and relevance still come first, because no answer engine can quote a document it cannot retrieve. If you already have SEO running, most of what we do is additive rather than a replacement, and we would rather extend your existing work than duplicate it.

Where they genuinely differ is in what you are trying to win and how you verify it. Ranking is a position you can track. A citation is assembled at the moment of asking, on a surface nobody publishes the rules for.

What do we not promise, and why?

None of the six competitor pages we read states a single limit on what this work can do. That is the biggest credibility gap on this search results page, so we are going to fill it on ours.

The clearest statement of the problem we found in anyone’s writing comes from a buyer-side audit guide, and it is worth quoting:

AI answer surfaces are not controlled like paid placements. Visibility can vary by prompt, user context, model, index, location, and timing.

So, in writing:

  • We do not promise a citation in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot or an AI Overview. No platform sells placement and answers are composed at the moment of asking.
  • We do not promise a knowledge panel. Google documents that knowledge panels are generated automatically and documents no way to request one.
  • We do not promise stability. The same prompt can return different sources on a rerun.
  • We do not promise a traffic number attributed to AI answers. AI referrals often arrive with no referrer. That cuts both ways: it means agencies get less credit than they earn, and it means no agency can prove the credit it claims. Including us.
  • We do not promise that formatting fixes relevance. If a model has no reason to retrieve you, structure will not create one.
  • We do not promise a ranking factor exists. Google’s documentation on AI features says: “There are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, nor other special optimizations necessary.” And its AI optimization guide says: “While terms like Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) or Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) are common online, many suggested ‘hacks’ aren’t effective or supported by how Google Search actually works.” We build on what Google documents rather than on what the category asserts.

What we do commit to is process: a named prompt set, a defined baseline, specific technical fixes, a reporting cadence, and a written reassessment date. Those are things we control.

Can you do this in-house instead of hiring us?

For a lot of businesses, yes, and we would rather say so here than discover it three months into a retainer.

The in-house version is realistic if you have someone who can edit templates and publish, plus about half a day a month for measurement. The steps are on this page and in our guides, in full, for free. One of the pricing guides above puts the fully loaded in-house cost at roughly 3,100 to 9,500 dollars a month once you count staff time, which is worth knowing before you assume doing it yourself is cheaper.

Hire an agency when the technical repair is beyond your team, when nobody internally has the half day, when you need someone accountable for a plan, or when you want the off-site corroboration work done, which is the part that is hardest to do from inside a company.

What do we need from you?

  • Read-only access to Google Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools and your analytics.
  • A way to get changes published, whether that is CMS access for us or a named person who ships.
  • Thirty minutes to give us the questions your customers actually ask on calls. This is the single highest value input and no tool substitutes for it.
  • Your real identifiers for the identity markup: legal name, registration numbers, addresses. We never invent these, because a wrong identifier is worse than an absent one.
  • A decision maker who can approve copy inside a week.

Can small businesses and ecommerce brands compete in AI search?

Small businesses often have an advantage here, because the work that matters most for them is unglamorous and cheap. A complete and accurate Google Business Profile, consistent details everywhere, one page per service that answers what a caller actually asks, and real reviews. Google’s own list of what to do for AI features includes keeping your Business Profile up to date, which is the item on it that matters disproportionately for a local business. We cannot show you a study that weights it against everything else, and neither can anyone else.

For ecommerce, it is product information completeness, category pages that answer buying questions instead of just listing products, and feed accuracy. Our guide to AI SEO for ecommerce covers the specifics, and ecommerce SEO covers the foundation underneath it.

For B2B and SaaS, it is comparison pages, documentation, and being described accurately wherever third parties list your category.

Why choose Hustle Marketers for AEO and GEO?

Four reasons, and a caveat on each so you can weigh them.

We published our position before we published this page

Our AEO guide quotes Google’s own documentation saying many suggested AEO hacks are not effective. It also reports the only study we could find that isolates whether adding schema changes AI citation rates: an observational matched comparison by Ahrefs of 1,885 pages over 30 days, where the two increases it measured were too small to tell apart from random variation and the one decline, though statistically significant, could not confidently be attributed to schema either. We wrote that before we wrote this. You can hold us to it.

The credentials are checkable

Hustle Marketers is a Google Partner, a Microsoft Advertising Partner and a Meta Business Partner. We hold a 4.9 out of 5 rating from 591 reviews across platforms, six Clutch Awards in 2026, and a Clutch rating of 5.0 from more than 50 reviews. Ishant Sharma has worked in search since 2013. All of those are verifiable in public directories rather than on our word.

There is a real track record, and it is mostly paid

We have worked with more than 2,500 brands, with 180 percent average growth, and the large majority of that history is paid media rather than AI search. We are telling you that rather than letting a ROAS figure imply an AEO outcome it does not support. AI search visibility is newer work for everyone selling it, us included.

The AEO numbers we have are small, and we will show them as small

On a six month engagement with a family entertainment center in Missouri, Search Console recorded organic clicks rising from 980 to 2,131 and impressions from 23,843 to 60,714 on a three month comparison. The case study does not state which three months against which three, and we have not isolated seasonality, so treat it as indicative. Ranking keywords went from roughly 266 to 517, which is a Semrush estimate, not first party data. On AI surfaces we recorded 8 mentions and 13 cited pages across ChatGPT, Google AI Overview, Google AI Mode and Gemini, on a single measurement.

That last number is the honest one and it is not proof. One measurement is not evidence by the standard we set out above, and given how much citation sets move on their own we cannot show that our work caused those specific mentions. Neither can anyone else, which is exactly why we are not claiming it. The full case study is here, and an anonymised Shopify pet supply program is here.

What should you ask us, and any other provider?

Two buyer-side sources set out good vetting questions, so we have put them on our own sales page with our answers. A G2 article by Tanushree Verma, 7 October 2025, gives five signals to judge whether an agency can really do this work. A SavageAudit guide of 28 June 2026 lists what to audit before you hire, and names red flags including any provider who promises guaranteed AI rankings.

Ask any providerOur answer
What will you audit before making recommendations?Access, indexation, identity and structure, in that order, before any content work is scoped.
What deliverables will we have after 30 days? The six items listed above, including the prompt set, which is yours to keep.
How do you measure success?Five outcomes per prompt per platform, monthly, with variation reported. Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools for the surfaces that publish data.
What do you need from us?Listed above. Chiefly read access, a way to publish, and your real customer questions.
How do you handle off-page and brand mentions?A named target list and an outreach plan, not a vague promise of digital PR.
Who owns the prompt set and the baseline if we leave? You do. In writing, from day one.
What will you not promise?Published above, before you asked.

Answer engine optimization services FAQs

Do you optimize for ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity specifically?

We optimize for the mechanism all of them share, then verify per platform on your prompt set. There is no per-platform switch to flip: every one of them has to retrieve a document before it can quote it. What differs is the crawler that fetches you and whether that platform publishes any data. OpenAI, Perplexity and Anthropic publish crawler rules and nothing about how sources are chosen. Our Perplexity SEO guide shows what that means for Perplexity in practice.

What AI search engines do these services target?

Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot and Claude, plus featured snippets and People Also Ask. We report on the ones you care about rather than padding a dashboard with all of them.

Is AEO replacing SEO?

No. Google’s own guidance says that from Search’s perspective, optimizing for generative AI search is still SEO. If your pages are not crawlable, indexed and relevant, no AEO tactic rescues them.

What is included in an AI visibility audit?

The prompt set and baseline, the access report covering robots.txt, CDN and firewall, the identity audit across your markup and your off-site listings, the query to page map, and a prioritized fix list split into one off and ongoing work.

How do you get cited in ChatGPT?

By being retrievable, relevant and quotable, in that order. Allow the retrieval crawler, be indexed and genuinely relevant to the question, and make the answer liftable: question in the heading, answer in the first two sentences, no dependency on the paragraph before. Nobody can do better than raising the probability, and anyone claiming otherwise is selling something.

Do backlinks and brand mentions still matter?

Being described accurately by other people is the part of this you cannot do from your own CMS, and it is the part we see neglected most. We treat it as a named target list rather than a vague digital PR line item. What we will not do is claim a measured multiplier for it, because we do not have one.

Do FAQ pages and FAQ schema still work for AEO?

Visible question and answer sections help, because a heading that matches a real question with a short complete answer under it is easy to lift. FAQ schema is a different question: Google’s documentation says the FAQ rich result stopped appearing in Search on 7 May 2026, and the only study we could find that isolates schema’s effect on AI citations is an observational matched comparison, not a controlled experiment, whose results did not separate cleanly from random variation. We will implement it if you want it. We will not bill it as an AEO deliverable.

Is AEO still relevant for voice assistants like Siri and Alexa?

Partly, and this is where the term came from. The earliest dated use of answer engine optimization we could find defined it purely around Alexa, Siri and Google Assistant, with no language model mentioned. The same structural work serves both, so we do not price it separately.

What does the first 90 days look like?

Days 1 to 30, baseline and access. Days 31 to 60, identity and the first tranche of structural fixes on your highest intent pages. Days 61 to 90, off-site corroboration and the second measurement, which is the first one worth comparing against anything.

Can we keep the prompt set and baseline if we stop working with you?

Yes, and you should ask every provider this. If the monitoring subscription and the baseline are in the agency’s name, your history leaves when they do.

Where is your team based?

Our team is based in Zirakpur, India, and works with clients worldwide, including the US, UK, Canada and Australia. Founder Ishant Sharma, who has worked in SEO and Google Ads since 2013, stays involved in strategy, and SEO plans start from $500 a month.

Sources, and how we researched this market

What we read. On 26 September 2026 we ran five searches on the services and pricing terms, and read six competitor service pages in full: NoGood, Marcel Digital, (un)Common Logic, Power Digital, Saffron Edge and Percepture. We also read one industry roundup and two pricing guides, plus two buyer-side vetting articles. Every count on this page is out of those six service pages, not out of the market.

What we could not reach. Reddit is blocked at the network level in our research environment, and no Reddit or Quora thread on these terms was reachable. We obtained no video transcripts. Our usual process reads the top 20 and mines forums and video; this pass did neither, and we would rather say so than imply a wider study than we ran.

One thing worth knowing about the roundups. The roundup ranking AEO companies that came back on these searches ranks its own publisher first, out of 78 companies it says it evaluated, with no disclosure that it is one of the companies being ranked. If you are shortlisting from a list, check who wrote the list.

Figures we have not repeated as facts. Several competitor pages state large AI visibility multiples and conversion lifts. We have not reproduced them, not because we think they are false, but because we did not verify them and they are not ours to cite. The same standard applies to our own numbers above, which is why they are presented with their source and their limits attached.
