JBL Construct is a residential remodeling contractor in Northern Virginia. The company is a Virginia Class A licensed contractor, DPOR number 2705196687, and it builds basements, home additions, accessory dwelling units, kitchens, bathrooms, whole home renovations and custom homes for homeowners across Fairfax, Arlington, Loudoun, Prince William and Fauquier counties. The business is residential only, and it runs a design and build process rather than a bid and walk away model.
JBL Construct engaged Hustle Marketers in January 2026. The work is digital strategy, search engine optimization and social media marketing. On the SEO side it covers a technical site audit, indexing analysis, keyword research, content strategy, on site optimization and WordPress SEO. It runs as an ongoing programme, not a fixed term project.
This remodeling contractor SEO case study carries only the figures the client published themselves. JBL Construct has not released its analytics for publication, so the traffic and ranking numbers below are the client’s own words in a verified public review, quoted and attributed. We do not publish client numbers we cannot evidence. What follows, therefore, is the scope of the work, the market data behind the decisions, and what the client said about it in public.
The wider method behind this engagement is written up in our guide to SEO for remodeling contractors. That guide covers the page architecture, the Google Business Profile rules and the buyer questions this account was built around.

Why SEO for a Remodeling Contractor Is Not the Same as SEO for a Plumber
Most contractor SEO advice is written for emergency trades. A burst pipe, a dead furnace, a locked door. Someone searches, calls the first credible result, and books that hour. Remodeling does not work like that, and four differences shaped everything we did for JBL Construct.
The job is chosen over weeks, not in an afternoon
A basement conversion or a home addition is researched for weeks before anyone fills in a form. The homeowner reads cost guides first. Then they look at finished projects. Then they check whether the company is licensed. Only after that do they compare two or three firms.
So a remodeling site has to answer questions at every one of those stages, not just the last one. A site with only service pages captures the person who is already ready to buy, and misses the far larger group still working out what the project costs.
The product is visual, and the proof lives in photographs
Nobody buys a kitchen from a paragraph. JBL Construct runs a before and after project showcase, and that gallery is the single most persuasive asset on the site. It is also, for most remodelers, the most wasted SEO asset on the site, because galleries are usually built as one long page of lazy loaded images with filenames like IMG_4471.jpg.
Every completed project is a potential indexable page. A remodeler finishing thirty jobs a year is producing thirty pages of genuinely original, locally relevant content as a by product of normal work. Very few take advantage of it.
The buyer is choosing a person, not a service
Read the reviews on JBL Construct’s own site and the pattern is obvious. Clients name Jay. They talk about integrity, project management and turning up when they said they would. Homeowners handing over a large sum of money to someone who will be inside their house for months are buying trust first.
That matters for search too. A verifiable licence number, real named people, a real address, insurance and a warranty are exactly the signals Google uses to judge experience, expertise, authoritativeness and trust. In this niche, therefore, the SEO work and the sales work are the same work.
Directories own the head term before you start
Search for remodelers in almost any American city and the first page is largely Thumbtack, Houzz, BBB, Yelp and HomeAdvisor. Those aggregators have more pages, more reviews and more domain authority than any single remodeling company will accumulate.
Pretending otherwise wastes a year. The winnable ground is specific: service plus suburb, project type plus budget, and the long tail of questions a homeowner asks before they are ready to shortlist anyone. That is where we pointed the work.
What a Northern Virginia Homeowner Actually Searches For
A remodeling keyword map is not a list of service names. Homeowners search by project, by room, by budget, by county and by problem. So we built the map around those patterns instead.
| Query pattern | Example searches | Where the searcher is | Page that should answer it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Project plus location | basement remodeling northern virginia, bathroom remodeling fairfax va, kitchen remodeling loudoun county | Ready to shortlist | A service page for that project, with real local proof |
| Cost and budget | how much does a basement remodel cost in virginia, home addition cost per square foot | Early. Working out whether it is possible at all | A cost guide with honest ranges |
| Process and permits | do i need a permit for a basement finish in fairfax county, how long does a kitchen remodel take | Middle. Deciding whether to proceed | A process or permit explainer |
| Comparison | design build vs general contractor, addition vs adu, refacing vs replacing cabinets | Middle. Choosing an approach | A comparison page |
| Vetting | how to check a contractor licence in virginia, questions to ask a remodeling contractor | Late. Reducing risk | A trust and credentials page |
| Inspiration | small kitchen layout ideas, basement bar ideas, mudroom ideas | Very early. Often not a buyer yet | Project gallery pages, and only if they are genuinely local |
| Near me | remodeling contractor near me, general contractor near me | Ready, but the map pack answers it | Google Business Profile, not a page |
| Broad category label | home remodeling, home renovation | Mixed. Often DIY, students or browsers | Low priority. Frequently not a buyer at all |
What the Live Keyword Numbers Say
We pulled the live United States figures for this market rather than guessing at them. Every number below therefore comes from Semrush, United States database, on 18 September 2026.
JBL Construct’s own market, Northern Virginia
| Keyword | US searches per month | Difficulty | CPC (USD) |
|---|---|---|---|
| kitchen remodeling fairfax va | 590 | 40 | $39.39 |
| basement remodeling northern virginia | 480 | 6 | not reported |
| bathroom remodeling fairfax va | 480 | 14 | $27.10 |
| bathroom remodeling northern virginia | 480 | 18 | $42.65 |
| home remodeling arlington va | 480 | 13 | not reported |
| home remodeling fairfax va | 390 | 6 | $11.34 |
| kitchen remodeling northern virginia | 390 | 13 | $20.53 |
| basement finishing northern virginia | 260 | 12 | not reported |
| custom home builder northern virginia | 210 | 57 | $4.38 |
| home remodeling northern virginia | 170 | 50 | $18.60 |
| home renovation northern virginia | 140 | 32 | $18.60 |
| general contractor fairfax va | 110 | 16 | $21.32 |
| remodeling contractor fairfax va | 30 | not reported | not reported |
| kitchen remodeling loudoun county | 20 | not reported | not reported |
| home addition contractor northern virginia | 10 | not reported | not reported |
| design build contractor northern virginia | 10 | not reported | not reported |
What those numbers actually say
Three things stand out, and all three change where the effort goes.
First, the obvious head term is the worst target in the market. The phrase home remodeling northern virginia carries a keyword difficulty of 50 for only 170 searches a month. Meanwhile basement remodeling northern virginia carries a difficulty of 6 for 480 searches a month. The generic label is nearly three times smaller and roughly eight times harder. A remodeler who spends a year chasing the phrase that matches their signage is chasing the wrong phrase.
Second, the advertisers tell you where the money sits. Bathroom remodeling northern virginia attracts a cost per click of $42.65 and kitchen remodeling fairfax va attracts $39.39. Those are the terms other contractors are willing to pay heavily for, every single click, month after month. Ranking organically for a term with a $42.65 cost per click is the cheapest inventory in the market.
Third, county and suburb terms are real but small. Kitchen remodeling loudoun county at 20 searches a month will never justify its own campaign. It will, however, justify a paragraph, an internal link and a project from that county in the gallery. That is the difference between a useful location page and a thin doorway page.
How that local market sits inside national demand
| Keyword | US searches per month | Difficulty | CPC (USD) |
|---|---|---|---|
| bathroom remodeling | 74,000 | 57 | $15.17 |
| kitchen remodeling | 33,100 | 46 | $7.94 |
| home remodeling | 27,100 | 44 | $6.46 |
| bathroom remodel ideas | 22,200 | 45 | $1.78 |
| bathroom remodel cost | 12,100 | 43 | $6.59 |
| kitchen remodel cost | 12,100 | 36 | $3.79 |
| basement remodeling | 8,100 | 36 | $10.30 |
| home addition | 8,100 | 38 | $5.86 |
| home addition contractors | 8,100 | 5 | $9.19 |
| home remodeling contractors | 6,600 | 64 | $9.16 |
| remodeling contractor | 6,600 | 58 | $9.81 |
| basement remodeling contractors | 1,900 | 12 | $17.59 |
| design build contractor | 1,300 | 11 | $5.16 |
| accessory dwelling unit cost | 320 | 5 | $2.96 |
The national table repeats the local lesson, and it repeats it in JBL Construct’s exact service lines. Home addition contractors carries more volume than home remodeling contractors, at almost the same advertised click price, with a keyword difficulty of 5 against 64. Basement remodeling contractors sits at difficulty 12 while carrying the highest cost per click in the set at $17.59. Design build contractor, which is precisely how JBL Construct operates, sits at difficulty 11.
Additions, basements, accessory dwelling units and design build are four of the services this client sells, and all four are materially easier to rank for than the generic word remodeling. That is not a coincidence. It is what a keyword map is for.
The informational side matters just as much. Bathroom remodel ideas alone draws 22,200 searches a month, and kitchen remodel cost and bathroom remodel cost draw 12,100 each. Those homeowners are weeks away from contacting anyone, which is exactly why the content strategy had to cover cost and process questions rather than service pages alone.
What the Engagement Covered
JBL Construct described the scope in their own public review as a technical site audit, indexing analysis, keyword research and content strategy, delivered alongside digital strategy and social media marketing. Here is what each of those means in a remodeling account, and how we approach it as an SEO agency.
Technical site audit
First, a crawlability and indexation review, including robots.txt accuracy and XML sitemap coverage. Then canonical handling, redirect chains and 404 cleanup. Also duplicate and parameterised URL control, which matters on WordPress builds where galleries and filters generate URLs nobody intended.
Next, heading hierarchy, image handling and structured data. In addition, Core Web Vitals and mobile usability, because a remodeling site is image heavy by definition and page weight is the usual culprit. Finally, orphan page detection and internal link depth, so no service page sits more than a couple of clicks from the homepage.
Every finding gets a priority of critical, high, medium or low. It also gets an owner and an exact fix. Critical items, in particular, are anything blocking crawling or indexing.
Indexing analysis
This is the step most remodeling sites skip, and it is the reason a lot of work never shows up. A page that is not indexed cannot rank, however good it is.
So the work covers which URLs Google has actually indexed against which URLs exist, why excluded pages were excluded, whether gallery and project URLs are being crawled at all, and whether thin or near duplicate pages are competing with the pages that matter. On an image led remodeling site, lazy loaded galleries and template driven project pages are the two things that most often fail quietly.
Keyword research
Mapped to the patterns in the table above rather than to a flat list. Each project type owns one page. Each county gets coverage in proportion to its actual search demand. Cost, permit and comparison questions get their own assets, because that is where the searcher is weeks before they are ready to call.
Content strategy
Content mapped to the stage the homeowner is at, not to a publishing calendar. Cost guides for the research stage. Process and permit explainers for the decision stage. Project pages and credentials for the shortlist stage. Then internal links wired from the research content into the pages that need to rank.
On site optimization and WordPress SEO
Title tags and meta descriptions written to the homeowner’s question rather than to a service label. H1 and H2 structure rewritten so headings answer what people actually type. Internal linking from supporting content into the service pages. Image handling, alt text and file naming across a gallery that carries most of the persuasion. And the WordPress specific work: theme and plugin output, template level markup, and the settings that quietly create duplicate URLs.
Digital strategy and social media
The review lists digital strategy and social media marketing alongside the SEO. For a remodeler those are not separate channels. Project photography shot for social is the same asset that fills the gallery, feeds the Google Business Profile and gives an AI assistant something to cite. The discipline is to shoot once and use it everywhere, with the website as the asset that is actually owned.

What That Review Tells You, Read Line by Line
| What the client said | What it maps to in the work |
|---|---|
| Conducted a technical site audit | Crawlability, indexation, canonicals, redirects, speed and structured data, prioritised critical to low with an owner and an exact fix |
| Run indexing analysis | Which URLs Google has actually indexed, and why the rest are excluded. The step that decides whether any other work can show up |
| Performed keyword research | Project plus county mapping, with cost and permit demand separated from shortlist demand |
| Created a content strategy | Content built to the stage the homeowner is at, then linked into the pages that need to rank |
| 25 percent increase in website traffic | The client’s own figure. Traffic growth in a market where the head term carries a difficulty of 50 comes from the long tail, not from the head term |
| 75 percent boost in rankings | The client’s own figure. In a local market this usually means ranking keyword count and position improvement across a set, not a single number one |
| Communicative and proactive | One point of contact who actually works on the account, with virtual meetings and written updates |
| Innovative marketing ideas | The project gallery, the cost and permit content and the credential signals, treated as SEO assets rather than as brochure pages |
| Cost rated 5 out of 5 | Scope matched to a 1 to 10 person remodeling business, not an enterprise retainer sold to a small contractor |
A Note on Review Schema, Since People Ask
We have not marked this review up with Review structured data. That is deliberate.
Google’s review snippet guidelines state that when the entity being reviewed controls the reviews about itself, pages using LocalBusiness or any other Organization structured data are not eligible for the star review feature. Ratings must also come directly from users. So marking this up would earn nothing, and structured data that breaches the guidelines can be ignored or can attract a manual action.
This page therefore uses FAQPage structured data instead. The review stays where it carries weight, on Clutch, where a buyer can verify it independently. That distinction matters for remodelers too, and we cover it properly in the remodeling SEO guide.
How This Engagement Is Run
First, we treated it as a lead problem rather than a traffic problem. A remodeler does not need a thousand visitors. They need the eight homeowners in their counties who are ready to spend on a basement this quarter.
Second, indexing came before publishing. Fixing what Google can see beat adding more pages onto a foundation that could not carry them.
Third, we went after the winnable ground. The head term in this market carries a difficulty of 50 for 170 searches. Basement and bathroom terms carry difficulties in single and low double figures for two to three times the volume. So that is where the effort went.
Also, one point of contact who actually works on the account. The client named communication in their review, and that is not an accident.
Finally, honest pacing. We told JBL Construct at the start what a realistic local SEO timeline looks like for a considered, high ticket purchase. Ongoing engagements survive because expectations were set properly at the beginning.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does this case study have no analytics screenshots?
Because JBL Construct has not released its analytics data for publication. The 25 percent traffic and 75 percent ranking figures on this page are the client’s own reporting, published by Clutch in a verified review, and attributed to them as such. We publish agency measured figures only when a client has approved them and we can evidence them. Several case studies in the list above carry those numbers for that reason.
How long does SEO take for a remodeling contractor?
Longer than an emergency trade, and shorter than a national ecommerce brand. The purchase is considered, the sales cycle runs weeks, and the content that captures early stage demand takes time to earn trust. In practice, expect early movement on long tail and county level terms within the first few months, and expect the competitive project plus city terms to take longer. Anyone promising a remodeler fast rankings on a head term is describing riskier work.
Can a remodeler rank in a county where they do not have an office?
In organic search, yes. In the Google map pack it is much harder, because proximity to the searcher is a ranking factor there and you cannot fake an address without risking a suspension. The practical answer is to earn organic rankings for project plus county terms with genuine local content, and to treat the map pack as strongest closest to where you actually operate.
What keywords should a remodeling contractor target?
Project plus location terms, cost terms, permit and process terms, and comparison terms. Those are what homeowners type. The broad category labels look attractive because they match your signage, but as the table above shows, in this market the generic label was both smaller and far harder than the specific project terms.
Is a project gallery worth optimising?
For a remodeler it is one of the highest return assets on the site. A company completing thirty projects a year is generating thirty pages of original, locally relevant content as a by product of normal work. Most galleries waste that by publishing everything on one page with camera default filenames and no text.
What is technical SEO for a remodeling website, in plain terms?
Making sure Google can find, crawl, read and index every page you want ranked, and cannot get stuck on pages you do not. On an image heavy WordPress remodeling site that usually means gallery URLs, duplicate parameter URLs, page weight and internal link depth. It is not glamorous, and it is the thing that decides whether any other work shows up.
Should a remodeler advertise as well as run SEO?
Often yes, and the keyword data says why. Bathroom remodeling northern virginia carries a $42.65 cost per click. Paid search buys you visibility this week at that price; organic search earns it for years at no click cost. Running both means you can buy the terms you have not earned yet and stop buying the ones you have.
Who actually works on the account?
Ishant Sharma leads accounts directly. The client named communication in their review, and that is what clients notice when the person doing the work is also the person they speak to.
How do you decide what to prioritise in an audit?
Everything gets a priority of critical, high, medium or low, plus an owner and an exact fix. Critical items are anything blocking crawling or indexing. Medium and low items are improvements that matter once the blockers are gone.
