You run a boat dealership, a marina, a repair shop or a charter business, and you want to know whether a marine marketing agency is worth the fee.
This guide covers what a good agency runs on each channel and how boat shows should shape your budget. It also covers listing sites, manufacturer co-op funds, the ad rules that catch marine businesses out and what agencies charge. It draws on our own work for a Florida marine business and on published NMMA and MRAA data.

Quick Answer: what does a marine marketing agency do, and is it worth hiring one?
A marine marketing agency runs the channels that bring boat buyers and service customers to you: Google Search ads, Meta ads on Facebook and Instagram, Google Business Profile, local SEO and SEO. It is worth hiring one when missed boat show windows, wasted clicks and slow lead follow-up cost you more in lost sales than the monthly fee.
Key Observations
- Boat shows drive the sales year. The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) estimates that US shows held from January to March drive 30 to 60 percent of the industry’s annual retail sales.
- Most boats sold are used. Pre-owned boats made up 79.7 percent of US boat unit sales in 2025, and Florida led the country in recreational marine spending.
- In the Marine Retailers Association of the Americas (MRAA) 2025 survey, roughly 70 percent of marine businesses used search ads such as Google Ads, yet only 14 percent had a third party run their paid online advertising. 18 percent did not measure their online marketing at all.
- Google vehicle ads do not allow boats, but Meta’s vehicle catalog accepts boat listings, so boat inventory ads run on Facebook and Instagram, not on Google.
- Google Local Services Ads has no marine category in the US, so repair shops and marinas rely on Search ads and Google Business Profile.
- Hustle Marketersâ„¢ charges $600 to $800 per platform a month for PPC management, month to month, and you keep ownership of your ad accounts.

| Marine business | What we run first | Common trap |
|---|---|---|
| Boat dealer | Search ads for brands and models, Meta inventory and video ads | Relying on listing sites for most leads |
| Broker or used boat seller | Meta catalog ads and Search for make and model | Paying for searches from private sellers |
| Marina | Google Business Profile and Search for slips and storage | One generic page for every service |
| Repair and service shop | Search ads, Google Business Profile and call tracking | Calls that go unanswered in peak season |
| Charter or rental | Search for trip type and location, Meta video | Budgets that ignore weather and season |
| Parts and accessories store | Google Shopping and the Merchant Center feed | Missing part numbers and fitment details |

What does a marine marketing agency do on each channel?
A marine marketing agency manages the channels that turn boat searches and scrolls into calls, forms and showroom visits. Which channel comes first depends on what you sell. A dealer needs model searches and inventory ads, while a repair shop needs to show up when a boat owner searches for help nearby:
- Google Search ads for brand, model, service and “near me” searches
- Meta ads for inventory, video, boat show promotion and remarketing
- Google Business Profile and local SEO for map results
- SEO for model, service and location pages that rank all year
- Google Shopping for parts and accessories sold online
- Microsoft Ads for extra Search reach at lower volume
Google Search ads: which boat and marine searches are worth paying for?
Pay for searches that show buying or booking intent: a brand or model with “for sale” or “dealer”, a service with your town, or a charter type with your harbor. Broad boating searches pull in students, job seekers and people looking for free information. We add these as negative keywords in phrase match, after checking each one against your services:
| Negative keyword | Why block it | Risk to check |
|---|---|---|
| jobs, careers, salary, technician jobs | Job seekers, not buyers | Remove while you are hiring through ads |
| boating license, boater safety course | People looking for training | Keep if you run courses |
| manual, parts diagram, how to, diy | Owners fixing it themselves | Do not block “winterization near me” type searches |
| rc boat, model boat, toy, game | Hobby and toy searches | Low risk |
| cruise, cruises | Vacation cruise searches | Keep if you sell sunset or dinner cruises |
| rental, rent, charter | People renting for one trip | Keep if you rent or charter boats |
| free | Freebies and free listings | Low risk for most marine businesses |
We start new campaigns on exact and phrase match, add these negatives at account level so every campaign is covered, review the search terms report every week in spring and move any new waste into the list. Our guide to Google Ads Quality Score explains how tighter ad groups also lower your cost per click.
Meta ads: how do boat dealers use Facebook and Instagram?
Facebook is the channel marine businesses mention most when asked what works. In the open-ended answers on what works best in the MRAA’s 2025 Marine Industry Digital Marketing Report, Facebook made up 28.3 percent of mentions. The business’s own website followed at 22.1 percent, then Google at 9.7 percent and Boat Trader at 6.2 percent.
We use Meta for four jobs:
- Inventory ads. Meta’s vehicle catalog accepts boats as a vehicle type, so we can feed your new and used stock into catalog ads that show each boat with its price and photos.
- Video. Your walkaround, sea trial and delivery day videos show the boat in use, which photos cannot.
- Boat show promotion. Reach people near the show before it opens, then remarket to those who engaged.
- Used inventory. One dealer in the MRAA’s June 2025 retail tactics roundup said marketing on Facebook Marketplace had been “a great hit for used inventory.”
Our Facebook Ads agency page explains how we manage Meta campaigns day to day.

Google Business Profile and local SEO: how do marinas and repair shops show up in “near me” searches?
Your Google Business Profile decides whether you appear in the map results when someone searches for boat repair, a marina or a dealer nearby. Google’s guidelines set the rules that matter most for marine businesses:
- Categories. Use as few as you need, and pick ones that finish the sentence “this business is a”, not “this business has a”. Check the exact category names in the live category picker before you choose.
- Departments. A public-facing department that runs as its own unit, with its own name, can have a separate profile. A dealer whose service department works this way may qualify.
- Service area. Mobile mechanics and detailers who do not serve customers at their own address should hide it and set a service area, which Google says should usually stay within about two hours’ drive.
We set up and maintain your profile as part of our local SEO work. Source: Google guidelines for representing your business, read on November 5, 2026. Our guide to local business schema covers the markup that helps Google read your business details.
SEO: which pages should a marine business build?
As part of our SEO work, we plan one page for each thing a customer searches for, so each page can rank for its own query:
- Dealers: a page per brand and per model line, with specs, prices or price ranges, photos and a link to current stock
- Repair shops: a page per service, such as engine repair, repowers, bottom painting or winterization
- Marinas: separate pages for wet slips, dry storage, transient dockage and fuel
- Charters: a page per trip type, with length, group size, what is included and departure point
- Everyone: a page per town or waterway you serve, written with real local detail
We aim to get these pages live before the season starts, because new pages take time to rank.
How do boat shows and the boating season change your ad budget?
Plan your budget around the boat show season and the spring rush, not an even monthly split. The NMMA estimates that US boat shows held between January and March drive 30 to 60 percent of the industry’s annual retail sales, and Discover Boating says dealerships are often flooded with business in spring and into early summer.
| Period | What buyers and owners do | What to run |
|---|---|---|
| Late fall to early spring | Most boat shows run in this window. Buyers shortlist models, and many lenders offer boat show pre-qualification deals for financing | Show landing pages, Search for brand and model terms, Meta reach and remarketing around each show |
| Spring into early summer | Dealers are busiest and owners book commissioning and repairs | Peak budgets, call-focused ads and enough staff to answer the phones |
| Summer | Owners are on the water, and charters and rentals peak | Charter, rental, service and accessory campaigns |
| Fall | The slowest selling season for dealers, and a buyer’s market as current-year models clear | Model-year clearance ads, used inventory on Meta, storage and haul-out services |
Sources: NMMA, January 8, 2026 and Discover Boating, best time to buy a boat, read on November 5, 2026.
How should you plan ads around a boat show?
We start before the show and keep going after it closes. For the next Discover Boating Miami International Boat Show, which runs February 10 to 14, 2027, that means:
- Four to six weeks before: build a show landing page with your booth location, the models on display and any show-only offers.
- Two weeks before: run Meta reach and video ads to people near the show, and add show-related phrases to your Search campaigns.
- During the show: raise Search budgets for your brands and models to catch shoppers comparing boats during the show.
- After the show: remarket to everyone who visited the show page or engaged with show ads, and follow up every booth lead within a day.
Why should budgets react to the weather?
Demand can jump on the first warm, sunny days. One dealer in the MRAA’s 2025 retail tactics roundup put it simply: “The second we see sun, the phones start ringing.” We keep enough daily budget headroom to catch those days, and schedule call ads only for the hours when someone can answer.
Should boat dealers rely on Boat Trader and other listing sites?
Use listing sites, but do not rely on them alone. In the MRAA’s 2025 survey, nearly 84 percent of marine businesses posted inventory on third-party listing sites. Around 60 percent used Boat Trader and 45 percent used boats.com. Yet in the report’s open-ended answers on what works best, Boat Trader made up only 6.2 percent of mentions.
Listing costs have also become a sore point. In March 2025, Boatmart launched a pay-per-lead model. Roger Dunbar, chief marketing officer of Trader Interactive, which runs Boatmart, said rising subscription fees at competitors had made listings unaffordable for many dealers, according to Boating Industry.
Here is how we set it up:
- Keep listings for reach, especially for used boats.
- We run Search and Meta ads to your own website, where you own the lead and the data.
- We tag every lead with its source, so you can compare cost per lead by channel.
- We review the numbers with you before each listing contract renews.
Can dealers use manufacturer co-op funds for Google and Meta ads?
Often, yes. Engine and boat manufacturers often run co-op programs that repay part of a dealer’s ad spend from funds the dealer builds up by buying stock. Each program has its own rules on eligible ads, branding, proof and deadlines. Suzuki Marine’s 2025 to 2026 program, which ended June 30, 2026, is a useful example of what to check:
| Rule | Suzuki Marine 2025 to 2026 program (ended June 30, 2026) |
|---|---|
| Program year | July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026 |
| Paid search and social media ads | Qualified for 100 percent co-op, paid up to the dealer’s accrued co-op balance |
| Dealer websites | Did not qualify |
| Proof for digital ads | Paid invoices with spend, dates and platform, screenshots showing the Suzuki logo, and impressions or clicks where available |
| Claim deadline | Claims due within 60 days of the ad date |
| Logo rule | Suzuki logo had to be at least equal in size to the dealer’s name or logo |
| Images and video | Captain and crew had to wear life jackets |
Source: Suzuki Marine 2025 to 2026 co-op advertising guidelines, read on November 5, 2026. Check your own manufacturers’ current guidelines before you plan spend.
We build co-op ads to the brand rules from the start, save screenshots as the ads run and send you the invoices and reports you need to claim on time.
What ad rules affect boat dealers, charters and marine services?
Three rules matter most: Google vehicle ads exclude boats, Meta’s vehicle catalog accepts them, and Google Local Services Ads has no marine category in the US. Boat financing ads on Meta may also need a special ad category that limits targeting. We checked each rule against the platform’s own documentation on November 5, 2026:
| Rule | What it means for you | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Google vehicle ads exclude boats | You cannot run boats as Google vehicle ads, so use Search ads and Meta catalog ads for inventory | Google vehicle ads policies |
| Meta’s vehicle catalog accepts boats | Dealers and brokers can upload boat stock and run catalog ads on Facebook and Instagram | Meta vehicle catalog reference |
| No marine category in Google Local Services Ads | The US category list has no boat, marina or marine repair option, so service businesses use Search ads and Google Business Profile | Google Local Services Ads categories |
Financing ads need care too. Meta requires a special ad category for financial products and services campaigns aimed at US audiences, and special ad categories limit targeting. If an ad is mainly about a boat loan or finance offer, check whether that category applies before you launch. See Meta’s special ad category documentation.
In practice, we advertise boat inventory through Meta catalog ads and Google Search ads, and we run service campaigns on Search with a strong Google Business Profile behind them.
Why do marine leads go cold, and how do you fix it?
Marine leads go cold when replies are slow or generic, and when nobody can see which ad, listing or page a lead came from. Our side of the fix is marketing: tracking every lead, sending better qualified leads and showing in reports which channels bring buyers. That makes it clear where your team’s follow-up time pays off.
The problem shows up in owner forums and industry research:
- On the Key West Boats owner forum in April 2021, an owner chasing missing parts after delivery said nobody had called him back two weeks after he left a voicemail.
- In a 2018 Boating Industry column, a dealer consultant who mystery shopped over 100 dealerships found that more than 79 percent of lead replies used the default subject line.
- In the MRAA’s 2025 survey, only 60 percent of marine businesses tracked conversions.
How we fix the marketing side:
- Track every lead type. We count calls, forms, chats and booking requests as separate conversions, and track calls from ads.
- Tag every lead with its source. Reports then compare Google, Meta, your website and listing sites side by side.
- Ask better questions on forms. Landing page forms ask for the boat model or service needed, so your team can reply with a real answer.
- Feed lead quality back into Google Ads. When you tell us which leads became sales or booked jobs, we import them so bidding favors the searches that bring buyers.
Our guides to call tracking for Microsoft Ads and PPC landing pages cover the setup.
Client example: how did Google Ads and Facebook Ads work for a Florida marine business?
Nautical Marine is a marine business in Tampa, Florida, that sells boats and motors and offers repair and maintenance. Hustle Marketers managed its Google Ads and Facebook Ads, and the account covered in our Nautical Marine case study spent $20.4k on Google Ads and $30.9k on Facebook Ads.
What problems did we find?
| Problem | What it caused | What we did |
|---|---|---|
| Irrelevant search terms | Clicks from people who were never going to book a repair, which hurt lead quality | New keyword research, negative keywords and ads written for the core audience |
| Inaccurate conversion tracking | Low-quality leads counted as conversions, so it was hard to judge which keywords worked | Rebuilt conversion tracking with added analytics tools |
| Underused ad assets | Ad extensions that were not performing well | Optimized the assets to improve the ads’ visibility |
What were the results?
Our case study, published in February 2024, reports a 65 percent increase in qualified leads and a 57 percent increase in return on ad spend after these changes. Nautical Marine also rated our work 5.0 out of 5 on Clutch.
Our recommended order for any marine service business: fix tracking first, then cut wasted searches, then improve the ads. Until tracking counts only real leads, the ad platform learns from the wrong signals.

How much does a marine marketing agency cost?
Most agencies charge a monthly management fee, and your ad spend is paid to Google or Meta on top. Hustle Marketers charges $600 to $800 per platform a month for PPC management and from $500 a month for SEO. Whoever you hire, ask for the fee in writing before you book a call.
For context on total budgets, more than 25 percent of dealers in the MRAA’s 2025 survey had an annual online marketing budget of at least $50,000. Around 8 percent budgeted $5,000 or less. These are industry budgets, not agency fees.
What does Hustle Marketers charge?
| Service | Fee |
|---|---|
| Google Ads, Meta Ads or Microsoft Ads management | $600 to $800 per platform a month |
| SEO | From $500 a month |
| First audit | Free, valued at $500 by our team |
All work is month to month with no lock-in, and your ad accounts stay in your name. Our PPC management pricing guide explains how agency fees are usually structured.
What should a fee quote tell you?
- Whether the fee is flat or a percentage of ad spend. A percentage fee rises every spring.
- Whether ad spend is billed to your own card in your own account.
- Whether co-op reporting and boat show campaigns cost extra.
- The notice period, and what happens to your campaigns if you leave.
What should you ask a marine marketing agency before you hire one?
Ask about proof, account ownership, tracking, listing sites, co-op support and how they plan for the season. In the MRAA’s 2025 survey, marine businesses named vendors among their top five digital marketing challenges, alongside time, cost and keeping up with changes. Here are eight questions to ask, with our own answers:
| Question to ask | Why it matters | How Hustle Marketers answers |
|---|---|---|
| Can I see results from a marine account? | Dated numbers prove more than logos | Our Nautical Marine case study shows spend by channel, the problems we found and what we changed |
| Who owns the ad accounts? | You keep your history if you leave | Your accounts stay in your name |
| How will you track calls and forms? | Each lead needs a source to judge channels | We set up conversion and call tracking before we scale spend |
| How will you plan around boat shows and the spring rush? | A flat monthly budget misses peak demand | We plan budgets around your show dates and season |
| How do you work with my listing sites? | Listing leads and ad leads should be compared | We report listing leads next to ad leads, using the lead data you share |
| Can you support my co-op claims? | Missed proof or deadlines lose the refund | We build ads to the brand rules and keep the screenshots and reports |
| Which searches will you block? | Jobs, training and DIY clicks waste budget | We build an account-level negative keyword list before launch |
| What does the contract say? | Lock-ins and setup fees add risk | Month to month, with no lock-in |
Our list of agencies that publish their pricing shows what open fee information looks like.
How do marine businesses get recommended in ChatGPT and Google AI Mode?
AI answers pull from pages they can trust and quote. On November 5, 2026 we checked Google AI Mode for seven searches, such as “marine marketing agency” and “google ads for boat dealers”. It cited marine agency pages, an industry association, video and social posts, and directories where boat owners look for service providers.
As part of our SEO work, we give AI tools something clear to quote about your business:
- We match your name, address, phone number and hours across your site, Google Business Profile and directories.
- We write a page that answers each common question, such as winter storage prices or what a charter includes.
- We add schema markup that names your business, the brands you sell and service, and the areas you cover.
- We make the brands and waterways you cover clear in plain text on every page.

Marine marketing agency FAQs
What is a marine marketing agency?
A marine marketing agency is a marketing firm that works with boat dealers, brokers, marinas, repair shops, charters and marine brands. The core work is Google Search ads, Meta ads, Google Business Profile, local SEO and SEO, planned around boat shows and the boating season.
What do marine marketing agencies charge?
Most agencies charge a monthly management fee on top of your ad spend. Hustle Marketers charges $600 to $800 per platform a month for PPC management and from $500 a month for SEO, month to month. Ad spend is separate and paid to Google or Meta.
Are Facebook ads or Google Ads better for boat dealers?
Most dealers need both. Google Search ads catch people already searching for a brand, model or service, while Meta ads show inventory and video to people who are not searching yet. In the MRAA’s 2025 survey, Facebook was the channel marine businesses mentioned most when asked what works best.
Can I run Google vehicle ads for boats?
No. Google’s vehicle ads policies list boats among the excluded vehicle types. You can still advertise boats with Search ads, and Meta’s vehicle catalog accepts boats, so catalog ads on Facebook and Instagram can show your inventory.
When should boat dealers spend the most on ads?
Spend the most during boat show season and the spring rush. The NMMA estimates that shows from January to March drive 30 to 60 percent of annual retail sales, and dealers are often busiest from spring into early summer. Fall is the slowest selling season in most of the US.
Can co-op funds pay for Google and Meta ads?
Often, yes, but rules differ by manufacturer. Suzuki Marine’s 2025 to 2026 program, which ended June 30, 2026, let paid search and social media ads qualify for 100 percent co-op, with logo rules, proof of performance and a 60-day claim window. Check each manufacturer’s current guidelines.
Do marine businesses need SEO if they list on Boat Trader?
Yes. Listings help used boats get seen, but they do not build your own search visibility. Model, service and location pages on your site can rank all year, and leads from them come straight to you.
Do you work with marine businesses outside Florida?
Yes. Hustle Marketers works with businesses in the US and worldwide from our team in India. All platforms are managed online, and we plan campaigns around your local boating season.
